Larry Renfrow's Big Buck . . .

The morning of November 10, 2007, was misty and unusually warm for the November deer season. At about 9:00 am, this buck came out of the woods trotting behind a doe.

Larry didn't even have time to get buck fever first! As soon as the deer broke out of the woods, Larry laid down his binoculars and shot, realizing immediately that this buck was the largest buck he had seen in a long time. He wasn't even out of the woods 45 seconds before he was shot and on the ground.

This buck has 14 points with one dropped tine. His original Boone and Crockett score was 186 and was later changed to 171 based on the fact that his rack isn't symmetrical due to one dropped tine. His spread is 19 inches inside. He was shot in Madison County, Texas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife thinks he may be the largest buck in Region 5, the Post Oak Savannah Region, an area that includes approximately 30 counties that range from the northern border of Texas to the county south of Madison County and from central Texas to Eastern Texas. This buck has been entered by the TP&W in the Texas Big Game Award contest where he may be selected as winner in September 2008.
